Connect with other women just like you who want to kick-start their writing in community.

Attending an in-person writing is event is amazing, but sometimes life, location, and finances make that impossible. Imagine the community of a small writing retreat, but in the comfort of your own home!

Spend a weekend with other ladies; be inspired and motivated; leave with a plan for some project momentum.

  • Friday Evening

    Meet & greet over a cup of tea. Get to know one another and discuss goal setting. Work through some exercises to identify your hopes for the weekend and why the act of writing feeds something vital within you.

  • Saturday Morning

    8:30 Coffee Chat. Settle into a meditative reading and then spend some time in free writing based on a prompt inspired by the meditation.

    10:00 Fresh air break. Move away from the screen and take a little walk if the weather allows. If weather is poor, try some gentle stretching, yoga, deep breathing, or just take a little stroll around your house.

    10:30 Motivational pep talk and release to focused writing time - get after those goals that were set on Friday night.

  • Saturday Afternoon

    1:00 Focused writing time with opportunity for one-to-one sessions with your host. Sign up for a half hour block during the registration process. A great chance to ask any questions you have about publishing or the additional supports she can offer.

    4:30 Checking in on those goals. Was your afternoon productive? Are you making strides?

    7:30 Hot coca & bedtime story. Get cozy with a warm drink and wind down for the day with a gentle reading by your host.

  • Sunday Morning

    9:30 Morning mediation and reflection over coffee.

    10:00 An opportunity to share some of your new writing and to invite thoughtful feedback from the other attendees.

    11:30 Next steps: planning for momentum. Setting bigger goals to help your project get where you want it to go.

How much does it cost?

$99 covers your entire weekend, including a private one-to-one session with your host.

Do I have to share my writing?

There will be many opportunities to share what you’ve been working on. If you are uncomfortable sharing, it is fine to just sit and listen, but it is highly recommended in order to enjoy the full benefits of the retreat. Feedback and encouragement from peers on a similar path as your own is wonderfully helpful.

How many writers can you accommodate?

This retreat is being limited to 5 women + the host. Small numbers allows space for everyone to have a voice, to establish trust, and to allow vulnerability.

Why can’t men attend?

The host feels she can best serve and relate to women in the intimate setting that a video call creates.

I am a trans-woman. Am I welcome?

Anyone who identifies as a woman is welcome. Chicken House Press and its host strive to be a place of inclusion and acceptance.

Am I required to be on camera?

Yes. The primary goal of this weekend is to foster community, to encourage vulnerability, and to have a clear path of communication. When everyone is on camera, everyone is at the same level.

This retreat is for women who:

  • are passionate about writing and have a desire to dive deeper into their craft, to create space for words, and to find community among other like-minded women

  • are willing to bring their authentic self on camera, to be vulnerable, to listen, to learn, to reject distractions and embrace discomfort to find relationship and unlock creativity

  • will show up and shine

  • can eliminate the intrusion of social media, phones, household needs, and daily stresses to truly allow the weekend to be about the goals that light them up

This retreat is not for women who:

  • are working on a corporate project that doesn’t light them up

  • cannot remove distractions for the full length of the retreat — you do yourself a disservice if you are not dedicated to every step of the journey

  • are not open to sharing their work and receiving the work of others with an open heart, grace, and a posture of humility

  • will not show their face on camera

  • cannot commit to being on time for each session

 What happens when I register?

After you have completed your registration, you will be send a digital download that includes everything you need to be prepared for a productive weekend - this package will include the password that gives you access to the dedicated retreat page.


Cancellation Policy: Your registration will be refunded in full minus an administration fee of $5 up until April 28. After April 28, you will be refunded the cost of your meals minus an administration fee of $5. If the event has to be cancelled because of Public Health recommendations surrounding Covid-19, you will be refunded your registration in full.
