1:00 - 7:00 pm

Created as an alternative (or in addition to) the 12 Hour Intensive which is currently offered twice a year.

@ the Fish Tails and Story Trails bookstore in Walkerton, ON

A mid-afternoon snack will be served, as well as all-day tea, coffee, and cold drinks.

  • Bring your laptop, notebook & pen, and whatever other tools you need to make your afternoon a success.

  • Wifi is available as well as accessible electrical outlets for your devices.

  • Dress for comfort - you can even bring along a pair of slippers if you like!

  • Chairs are not padded so you might consider bringing along a pillow to sit on or lean against.

  • If you like to listen to music while you write, please bring headphones so you don't disturb those who like to write in a quiet space.

  • A full meal will not be served. Be sure to have a hearty lunch before you come.

  • The bookstore is connected to a fish store. If you have any sensitivity to sounds, please be aware that there will be the continuous (gentle) noise of running water. If you need to bring noise-cancelling headphones or ear plugs, please feel welcome to do so. Fish can provide a therapeutic energy - if you feel yourself strugglling with writer’s block or sore muscles at any point throughout our time together, you are welcome to wander among the tanks.

PRO TIP: by bringing your own travel mug, your hot drinks will stay hot much longer - but don’t worry, cups will be provided for anyone who needs one.

FAQs

How much does it cost?

$33 covers your full registration with snacks and drinks.

Is the building accessible?

Sort of. There is space to navigate a wheelchair or walker through the main entrance; however, the single washroom cannot accommodate a wheelchair.

How many writers can you accommodate?

The space has room for 14 writers. You will have to share table space, but should have lots of room to spread out your gear.

Can I have my own workspace?

The bookstore will be set up with a long line of tables down the centre and writers will spread along this space. If you cannot share space with others for any reason, I can make sure a small, personal table is available for you for an additional $10. (only 2 available)

Is there a choice of snacks?

The snack selection will be based on budget which will be based on how many people register to attend. When you register, be sure to let me know if you prefer sweet or salty so I can do my best to accommodate preferences.

Where is it located?

Fish Tails and Story Trails is at 417 Durham St E Walkerton, ON N0G 2V0.

Is there parking close by?

There is free street parking in front of the store and a free parking lot just around the corner at 306 Scott Street.

Can I shop in the bookstore while I’m there?

Officially, the store is closed; however, I can process sales for you if something catches your eye. I will plan to hang around after 7:00 for anyone who would like to make a purchase before they go home. Sales will not be processed before 7:00. There is a nice selection of writer resources you may be interested in checking out. (Note: I cannot process any sales from the fish side of the store.)
