The Core Values of Chicken House Press

What are Core Values? Core Values serve as the guiding principles for all our words and actions and are true markers of the CHP identity—not only for the business, but for any individual employee, partner, or volunteer. The Core Values of Chicken House Press underlie all activity, including the strategies used to reach a goal, and will be forefront in every decision and every interaction with both clients and the community.

  • What you see is what you get. There is no acting or pretending. CHP is committed to being real and honest in all situations, acknowledging that:

    We are all human
    We all have successes
    We all make mistakes

Authenticity connects people. It means we can be who we are and not spend energy pretending to be someone else. It means we can react to challenges with our native gifts, making us efficient, engaged, and successful. Authenticity celebrates all the nuances that make each individual unique. When we are free to be our authentic selves, we give permission to those under our influence to do the same.

  • CHP believes the best client is a well informed client. We will never withhold information about our process and are always open to answer questions if something isn’t clear.

We do not believe in hidden costs or surprise additions and hold ourself to a high standard of integrity.

Transparency embodies honesty and open communication.

We will admit when we make a mistake and we will strive to continue learning and growing.

We are committed to following through on every promise made and we expect our clients to keep us accountable, just as we expect the same transparency from them.

  • Empathy, patience, passion, persistence: that is how we show up to serve. By listening to a client’s needs and discerning the things they may not even be able to articulate, we can show up to serve each individual with the product that exceeds their needs.

We believe in going beyond what is asked of us. We believe in being available. We believe in listening first. We believe in having grace and making space.

We believe that leading with authentic and transparent service builds the kind of trust that sustains a strong professional relationship, turning work into pleasure.

Our Secondary Values are informed by our Core Values. They are things you can expect in any interaction and are important to how we approach our business and our goals.

  • At CHP, we believe sugar-coating the truth hinders growth. We believe in telling it like it is (with kindness) and not beating around the bush. Tough love yields greater results than coddling.

We are practical in our approach to every project and realists when it comes to things like timelines and goals.

There is wisdom in honest reflection and we will advocate for our clients to set smaller goals or expand timelines if we discern an unrealistic objective.

We believe in marathons, not sprints; that overnight success is a myth; and that hard work brings true reward.

  • Yes, we believe in working hard, but we also believe in having fun while we do it, striving to make levity a part of every interaction.

Laughter is therapy. We don’t believe work should be staunchy. We are quick to joke and encourage lightness over heaviness, always looking for the silver-lining of every situation (while still maintaining our pragmatic approach).

  • At CHP we celebrate and expect creativity. We keep ourselves open to suggestions from clients and community and we are constantly exploring new ways to do old things.

We believe ideas are gifts that need to be acted on and we are committed to keeping an open mind, always reaching for new heights and setting new goals.

  • CHP desires to be a hub of connection, to build a community of like-minded people who want to use art to better the world. We are always looking for ways to increase visibility, to bring new people into the coop, and to create new opportunities for relationship.
