Writer's Café for Kids Workbook

$11.99

What kids are saying:

"I learned lots of things that I was learning at school so it helped me. I also loved that we did things before we were writing like how to write a story." — Lila, age 11

"A good space to learn. Encouraging." — Noa, age 11

"I mostly liked everything from this creative writing workshop. I would say that the only thing that I would change is more time to write." — Jesse, age 12

"The quiet writing time was glorious!" — Aurora, age 10

The Writer's Café was designed to encourage children up to the age of 12 to embrace their voice, remove the mystery of 'new ideas', unlock inspiration, and discover the joy of storytelling. This five lesson program can be split into blocks to fit your own schedule. Take a full Saturday and knock it out all at once, or do weekly sessions to allow for more writing time in between, culminating in a final time of sharing.

Using the opening sentence from Lord of the Flies, students will craft their own stories, learning that even if everyone starts from the same place, they will find themselves going in wildly different directions.

With many opportunities to contribute to discussion and participate in collective brainstorming and sharing sessions, children will learn to appreciate the diversity of imagination, and in the end, have a story to share with their families.

The workbook walks children through each lesson, leaving lots of room for them to record their ideas and work on the writing assignment.

This workbook is designed for use in a classroom or workshop setting, and is not recommended for individual use. Get a copy of the Teacher's Manual to walk you through each lesson.

Alternatively, a digital version is available for $22 and you may print off as many copies as you need to run your program.

LESSONS:

  1. What Makes a Good Story?

  2. What are the Stages of Writing a Book or Story?

  3. What is a Writing Voice?

  4. How do you Write a Draft?

  5. An Introduction to Editing
