Marcus, son of Barsadias, of the five hundred and ninety-eighth legion of our King Zoren, is defeated. After being buried alive, he emerges to the destruction and loss the king’s armies have left in their wake. Hidden in a secret room, Miriam doesn’t know how to get back to Jaybez or how to protect the six young lives that are suddenly in her charge. In the midst of the cull, every slave is being hunted but when Jaybez’s cell is found empty, the handmaiden becomes far greater prey, and the hunter will stop at nothing until he finds her.
