Walkerton Author Dares To Go Where Eagles Never Fly

February 21, 2024 | For Immediate Release

Brian C. Austin of Walkerton, Ontario releases the first book in a series 46 years in the making.

Austin launches his first novel in over a decade with the release of Where Eagles Never Fly, the debut in a planned series of the same name. First inspired by an article in a 1977 edition of Popular Science, Austin has spent most of his adult life perfecting this story. “It went through multiple rewrites in those first few years,” Brian says. “When I became involved with a Writer’s Association, it received a complete rewrite every time I learned something new—and there was a great deal to learn. (It’s been) 46 years plus since the first words of this work were hammered out on an old manual typewriter.”

For fans of adventure and self-discovery, Where Eagles Never Fly is a journey that offers a thrilling mix of classic themes. Lovers of high-stakes exploits and faith-based fiction will be engrossed in this story of resilience, a testament to the indomitable human spirit, the will to survive, and the courage to chase after a better future.

Austin’s writing is crisp and rich and his world-building is vividly imagined, confidently entwining a wilderness adventure with a touch of sci-fi as a young protagonist builds a groundbreaking craft using off-the-shelf technology that will lead him to a hidden sanctuary where those facing prejudice and hatred can find safety.

“(The main character’s) brains, faith, and stubbornness shape him into the hero the world needs as it falls apart,” said one early reader. “While the technology of The Eagle seems unbelievable there is just enough detail to make me think maybe it's not science fiction after all. The author does an excellent job of drawing you into the diverse Canadian landscape, where you join the flawed hero on his quest to save the world.”

A prolific reader himself, Austin’s work is sprinkled with the influence of James Harriot, Farley Mowat, Jules Verne, and Robert Service, resulting in a powerful combination of outdoor exploration, the great white north, descriptive prose, and gripping adventure.

Officially launching at Fish Tails and Story Trails in Walkerton, Ontario on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 3-5 p.m., Where Eagles Never Fly is poised to welcome readers into a view of a not-too-distant future where, in a world filled with persecution and hostility, it’s up to the brave ones to soar where eagles never fly.
