Vancouver Author, Ace Baker, Signs With CHP for Short Story Collection

Baker signing his publishing contract

Chicken House Press has secured author, poet, and writing coach, Ace Baker of Vancouver, British Columbia for a powerful short story collection.

His story, "Victory Girl," won the SIWC Storyteller Award, and another, "Menos Coca, Más Cacao" won the Blank Spaces short fiction contest, "The Things We Leave Behind," and was published in an anthology by the same name — both of these pieces are set to appear within the collection. His poetry has won the PNWA and Magpie awards, among others. Both his prose and poetry have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and National Magazine Awards.

Diana Gabaldon, author of the hugely successful Outlander series, has said Ace’s writing contains “overlapping layers of depth and meaning,” while the late Jack Whyte, celebrated for his historical novels surrounding the stories of King Arthur, has said Baker’s prose

left me breathless and awed by the indelible images it thrust into my awareness... terse, taut, and terrific in its brilliant intensity, with the poetic commentaries falling like sparks from a brilliant rocket.

HOW TO MAKE A KILLING JAR is a poetic, compelling, and sometimes shocking collection of fables that unpack snapshots—both light and dark—of the human experience. With stories that span the globe from Vancouver to Columbia to New York City to Puerto Rico to Singapore and more, this immersive assembly of settings and characters is scheduled for a late summer 2023 release and is sure to appeal to readers of all genres.
