New Monthly Writer Gathering Launching in Durham in 2026

Chicken House Press is launching Muse & Brews, a free monthly gathering designed to bring writers together in gentle community and creative solidarity.

Starting January 17, 2026, the gathering will meet on the third Saturday of most months from 1-3 p.m. at Éowyn’s - The Littlest Ice Cream Shop in Durham, Ontario.

Writing can be solitary work. The blank page, the revision that won't quite land, the story that's burning inside you but hasn’t found its shape yet—these are things only other writers truly understand. Muse & Brews offers a space for writers craving connection in the ups and downs of the writing life.

The informal gatherings will welcome writers at any stage of their journey, whether working on a first poem or a tenth novel, writing daily or squeezing it in between other commitments. Participants can bring their writing, notebooks, or laptops—or simply show up to connect with fellow writers.

No agenda or required participation structures the afternoon. Writers can work quietly in community, share current projects, or engage in conversation about craft, process, and the creative life. The format will evolve organically based on what participants need as the group develops.

No RSVP is needed—just show up. While attendance is free, participants are encouraged to support Éowyn’s by purchasing from their menu.

Writers interested in receiving reminders before each gathering can sign up for notifications by adding their name to the event email list.
